Service Description
Do you feel like your friends and family are being judgmental about your sexual orientation? Do you find it difficult to feel comfortable in your body? Are you struggling with gender dysphoria? Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, two-spirited, intersex, and queer (LGBTQIA+) people experience unique stresses and life circumstances that heterosexual/straight or cisgender people may not experience. There’s help to be found. Using a blend of acceptance commitment therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy, it is possible to build a life that you love and decrease the critical internal voice that screams YOU’RE DIFFERENT. The therapeutic exploration of your life is only possible with someone who values the diversity and breadth of human identities. That includes sexuality and gender expression, which is fluid in every one of us. We are also aware that none of us can be reduced to a single label or identity, whether this is political affiliation, race, gender, or sexual orientation. That being said, therapy can help LGBTQIA+ people to work through the wounds that have been inflicted on them by bullying and oppression, and to give them a safe space to determine who they really are - not who other people think they should be. If you’re an LGBTQIA+ person struggling with your identity or wondering how to manage the consequences of being yourself, you’re a superhero. If you think counselling could be helpful to you in working through this difficult process, or in healing the wounds inflicted on you by homophobia or transphobia, we are here to help.
